Rachel Plummer says: Hi Katie, thanks for your message! Yes, Friday after school is just fine. If you come along we can show you round and introduce you to the other volunteers and to the pets. See you then! Rachel. Katie says: Hi, I sent an e-mail about volenteering but im not sure if you have gotten it as my internet has been a bit dogey recently. Anyway i came into the shop on monday asking about work experience, I was thinking i could help out on a friday after school? If you could get back to me that would be great thank you. hannah says: is a rotastak adventurre zone ok for dwarf russian hamsters? says: best wishes for 2010!!:) hannah says: hi I got a hamster at paws here about a year ago called Smudge. He sadly passed away on hogmanay:(He had a good life and we have got some good memories of him! Brooke says: Do you have any rats mice or gerbils at your shop? What do gerbils eat and what size of cage should they be kept in? Isabelle says: GET WELL SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ross says: Dear All, Sorry to hear about the illness. Hope you all manage to recover soon. All the best, Ross Rachel Plummer says: Hi Lucy, unfortunately all of the female hamster in the current litter are reserved, although we do have some boys left looking for homes. I have another litter of hamsters that are still too young to be seen just now, but there should be some girls in that litter. They will be ready to be seen and reserved in another week or two, then they can go to new homes another week or two after that. Thanks! Lucy says: Hi, I was wondering if you have any female hamsters for sale? And how much are they? Thanks Rachel Plummer says: Hi Maya, thanks for your question. You can read in detail why rabbits shouldn't be kept outside here on the website. Click on "Pet Info" and then "Rabbit". There is an article titled "Why Indoor Homes" which explains why rabbits need to be kept in safe, warm indoor homes as part of the family. I don't really understand why people even want a pet if they don't want him or her in the house with them. It's strange! And certainly not the attitude we look for in potential homes for our much-loved animals. Maya says: Hi Rachel, I was just wondering why you don't like your rabbits to live outside? Rachel Plummer says: Hi Megan, perhaps you could bring in a photo of the cage your dad has built? Or write down the exact dimensions for us, as we're mostly looking to make sure that the cage is big enough for rabbits. Remember though that rabbits should never be kept outside, and we only rehome to indoor homes (you can read more about that on the website under "Pet Info" and then "Rabbit"). Also wooden hutches can be difficult to keep clean. If you are keeping a wooden hutch inside it might be worth putting a plastic base in as that won't soak up any moisture from urine for example - this can lead to foot infections like bumble foot, and will smell. I've even known people to fit their cages with lino to make it more water-proof! Just be sure your bunnies don't eat the lino. Megan Fotheringhame says: Hi Rachel, I was looking at the section where it says you must bring in the cage if it is bought elsewhere. I was just wondering if that counted for a hutch that has been built by my dad at home? Megan Fotheringhame says: Thanks Rachel, My parents have actually said they woulg get me 2 rabbits from your shop! I'm really excited that I'm getting them and I promise I will be the best bunny carer ever! Thanks for your answers, they will come in handy! Megan Rachel Plummer says: Hi Megan, thanks for your message and your good questions! Rabbit can't eat meat under any circumstances as they are herbivores so they can't digest it. You can give them fruit and vegetables as a treat, and make sure they always have lots of nice hay to eat. You can sometimes give them a small piece of cracker or a bit of dry weetabix biscuit too. Rabbits can go to new homes from about 8 weeks old, but it's nice to consider adopting rescue rabbits. There are lots of bunnies looking for homes that are not babies, but are not old rabbits either. You will be doing a very good deed by giving them a forever home. Rabbits love running around in pens! If they are playing outside then you need to make sure they are vaccinated against myxomatosis and VHD. They can play indoors or outdoors. Most rabbits can be litter trained. You can get fold-up runs that will fold away when you aren't using them. Keep an eye on your bunnies when they are out playing as sometimes they can jump very high and escape! Thanks again for your questions, and let me know if there's anything else you'd like to ask. Rachel. Megan Fotheringhame says: Hi, I have been into the shop quite a few times recently, and i really love the bunnies! Questions: Can rabbits eat meat? From what age can you take them home? Do they enjoy running around in pens? Thanks, Byex Graham says: Hi Rachel it's with sad news that one of our rats has suddenly passed away, TJ (page 2 in the pet gallery) went this morning in his sleep and he was 20 months old today. His brother Casper is still full of life but missing him, we will all miss his cheeky little face. Ross says: It was Sam (my Syrian hamster's) 1st birthday on 7th June. He's still doing really well. He got some chicken, baby corn, raw broccoli and carrot as his birthday tea (only the chicken was a rare treat for him). He always wants to drag the broccoli in to make a door for his house. He never really seems interested in toys apart from his wheel - he loves getting out to run around the living room & climb everything in sight. Alex says: Hi Rachel King is getting on very well. At night I can't get to sleep because he is always on his wheel. He likes egg, bread, apple, and ham as a small treat. He is really injoying his new home. He also really loves his ball. And loves it when we let him run about free. He likes running about on my bed. And finally me and my dad are really pleased we got him. Anna Harding says: Hi Rachel, a while ago my boyfriend and I bought a Syrian hamster from you. She was a gorgeous light brown colour (you were thinking about keeping her for yourself). Just a wee message to say that we've named her Millie and she's settled in great, she loves running in her ball and keeping us up all night! See you soon Hannnah Morrison xxxxxxxxxxxxx Wendy Chalmers says: First of all I would just like to say greetings !!!.... I am a Canadian living in Montreal, Quebec CANADA and I JUST HAPPENED BY CHANCE to find this very intresting site, I HAVE BEEN A BIG FAN OF HAMSTERS for more than 20 years now ( Iused to breed hamsters as a hobby when I was a teen aged girl 25 years ago and have always enjoyed the playful antics and ways of these small rodents... KEEP UP WITH THE FINE WORK that is so obvious to me that you do for all the small rodents that you care for , and the photos are great, really made me smile , made my day already brighter !!! says: hi do you know when you'll have anymore of those triangular, tartan hamster houses? Love the website by the way! Laura says: Hi Rachel, just to let you know our little sable hamster that we got from you on sunday is settling in well. We've called her Rosa and she seems to be liking her wheel quite a lot. Also she has discovered the bars on the roof of her cage and has taken to climbing upside down on them! Thanks for all your help, we hope to pop in again soon :) Laura Adam and Vicky says: Hi, our new boys have settled into their cage and are currently having a good clean and feed. We have named the one with the white dot Freddy and his brother is Sir Roland. Amazingly neither liked our chocolate treats like our last rats so we will have to come in and get some treats for the guys from you. We will post some photos for you soon once they have calmed down and sit still. Thanks again. Cara says: we have named the baby hamster that we bought from your shop Willow. She is settling in well but is still a bit jumpy. Willow belongs to my brother but for the last 2 nights i have kept her in my room because my room is quite and i thought it would nice for my hamster to have a little friend in the room.i will pass on more information over to you soon but until then Goodbye!! Cara Rachel Plummer says: Hi Pip, thanks for your question. A five gallon tank is pretty small, even for a dwarf hamster or mouse. It may be a suitable size for a roborovski hamster. You'd need to be sure there was lots for the hamster to do and play with, possibly a wheel to run on as well for exercise. Good luck with your search for a new pet! Rachel. Pip says: Hi There, I just came accross youre site and was looking for some pet advice. My son has recently had his fish die and we are now left with a 5 gallon tank. We were wondering what pet/s we could have using this as housing? Debbie says: Hi Rachel, Didn't realise you had such a fantastic website or that you did so much with the rescues. Well done you!! Sorry to hear you've been ill but glad you're on the mend. We'll pop in soon to find out more about helping/fostering etc. Post your own messagePlease note that all messages have to be approved by us. This is to prevent spam and abuse.
