Sadly this time of year is always a very busy time for us with lots of pets being given up or abandoned. We are approaching our limit for rescues fast. Together with the current economic situation, this is meaning that we are under quite a lot of financial pressure just now. If any of you can help with a donation, however small, the animals and us would be very grateful indeed. Your donation will help us to provide a better life for rescued pets. Thank you!

Paws Here is getting ready to launch into some big fundraising events in preparation for the Christmas season.

Although Christmas is a happy time of year for many, for animal shelters it is sadly one of our busiest and most demanding times. Pets are bought as Christmas presents which are soon tired of and abandoned. Many pets are neglected, left out in the bitter cold to suffer. And, shocking as it may be to those of us who love our pets as if they were our family members, many pets are abandoned at shelters simply because they interfere with their owners' holiday plans.

Paws Here is already in a difficult situation, with founder and manager Rachel off sick for the past several months. Now is a time to prepare for the difficulties ahead.

Fortunately we have some wonderful and seriously fun fundraising ideas to generate support both in the local community and further afield, and there are lots of ways that everyone can help out!

We urgently need donations of the following:

-clean, empty jam jars with lids
-raffle prizes
-hand made/crafted items (such as Christmas stockings, teddy bears and other toys, baby/children's clothes, hats and scarves, tea cosies, cushions, quilts and blankets, hand made jewelry and anything else you can think of!)
-knitting yarn/wool
-teddy bears in any condition

These items should be brought in or sent to us asap at the address below.

We need people who can pledge the following to be donated by a date to be decided in December:

-home made cakes (including Christmas cake!)
-home made jams/chutneys
-yet more hand made/crafted items! (see above)
-Christmas gift themed bric-a-brac (including books, unused toiletries, candles, ornaments in good condition, photo/picture frames, unbroken glassware, craft kits and items, children's toys and activities, unused stationery, board games, jewelry etc - please note that we do NOT need donations of clothes or electrical goods at this time)

These items should be brought in or sent to us some time before December 10th, bearing in mind that any perishable items should be made and donated as close to that date as possible.

Donations can be posted to:

Thank you for your support. Your help really can make a big difference to rescue animals this winter.

In addition to this, we are also grateful for donations of the following items:

-wood shavings, shredded paper, soft paper bedding, wood based cat litter or other small animal bedding

-dog, cat or small animal beds, baskets, blankets and hammocks

-small cardboard boxes

-fruit and vegetables

-hay

-toys that are suitable for small animals

-food that is suitable for small animals

-cat litter trays

-large dog cages

If you would like to help us out then one of the most valuable things you can donate is your time. See our page on volunteering for more info.

Or perhaps you have a skill that you can donate to help us out, such as help with making and distributing posters, with marketing, driving, or with repairs here at the shelter.

Just a quick note to say thank you to Ciaran Taylor for selling The Imperial Plate of Persia on ebay, and raising 132 pounds for us.
