Foster A Rescue PetWhenever a pet comes to Paws Here to be rehomed they are quarantined at home for a few weeks to be sure they are well and settling in fine, and so we can make an assessment of their health and temperament to be sure we are placing them in the most appropriate home when they find a new family.Occasionally we have a large number of rescue pets come in to find new homes all at once, or rescue pets which are too young to go to their new homes yet. In these cases we ask friends to foster these pets in their homes until we have enough space, or until the pets are old enough or have been quarantined/tamed/settled in for long enough. Because of the large number of rescue pets we currently have we are looking for foster homes for a variety of our animals, but especially rabbits. If you would like to be considered as a foster home then please do get in touch for an initial chat, you can call us here on 0131 4477464 or pop in in person. Fostering involves looking after a pet in your home as if it were your own for a period of time. We ask you to provide food and bedding, but if any veterinary care is needed it will be covered by Paws Here. If you have a cage this is a big help, but certainly not necessary as cages can be provided. We have two types of foster placements, long and short term. Short term fostering is usually for a few weeks, never more than one month. Longer term fostering can last for several months, depending on the animal and the circumstance. In general we look for short term foster placements for our pets. All of our foster pets are carefully matched up with their foster family to be sure the right pet is in the right situation. They must be kept indoors. We usually ask that our foster carers have some experience of looking after the type of pet in question, and the ability to get to a vet should an emergency situation arise, as well as the ability to come into Paws Here to collect and return the pet and have an initial informal interview. Please note that fostered pets, including rabbits, MUST be kept indoors. Thanks in advance to our new foster families! |
