Permanent Residents

The following are pets who will be with us probably for the rest of their lives. We are a strictly no-kill shelter and any animal who is too ill or too old to find a new home will remain with us for the rest of its life. We provide them with on-going vetrinary support if necessary and they get lots of care and attention from us and our volunteers.

There are more hamsters to be added to this list, and I am working on getting photos up for all of the animals listed here.

Rabbits

Basil is a very special permanent resident. Read his story here.

Eliot - Sponsored by Rosemary and the Reverend William

Eliot's mother was brought in to us pregnant, and Eliot was born in 2008. He is neutered and now lives happily with his sisters Daisy and Vera. He loves to eat, and his favourite food is curly kale.

Vera - Sponsored by Grethe Myra

Colour: white and grey
Age: 1 year
Status: permanent resident, currently fostered

Vera is a very special bunny with a lot of character! She was born as part of the same litter as Eliot, and now lives with him and her sister Daisy. She loves nothing more than getting into mischief and climbing on things.

Daisy

Species: rabbit
Breed: mini lop
Gender: female
Colour: pink eyed white
Age: 1 year
Status: permanent resident, currently fostered

Daisy, in contrast to her sister, is a quieter bunny. She is very soft, like a powder puff, and loves to be talked to and stroked very calmly and gently. Still, she is able to join in with the mischief now and again!

Here is Daisy as a baby:

Rats

Iris

Species: rat
Breed: fancy rat
Gener: female
Colour: Pink Eyes White
Age: 1 year
Status: permanent resident

morag

Iris is an incredibly friendly, sweet natured female rat who was brought in to us over a year ago now. She has some medical problems, including a skin problem on her tail which needs daily treatment. Her vet bills alone have already reached over £300. She is a very affectionate rat who thrives on care and attention and we are all very attached to her at Paws Here. We will do everything we need to support her throughout her life, but her vet fees are very draining on our resources, so any donations or sponsorship of Iris are very much appreciated.

The Mayor

Species: rat
Breed: fancy rat
Gender: male
Colour: hooded black
Age: unknown
Status: permanent resident

The Mayor came to us from very sad circumstances, from a situation where he had been badly treated. It is not possible to rehome him due to his age, as well as ongoing health and temperament issues. He currently lives with Timothy Davies and Clive.

Timothy Davies

Species: rat
Breed: fancy rat
Gender: male
Colour: agouti
Age: unknown
Status: permanent resident

Timothy Davies, like The Mayor, has not had the best start in life. Fortunately he is now one of the sweetest and gentlest rats I've ever come across. He lives with The Mayor and Clive, and is rather partial to grapes.

Recently Timothy has had to have an operation to remove a lump from his chest. He recovered well, but was weakened by the surgery. He has picked up a respiratory infection and is being treated with anti-biotics under the close supervision of our vet. Send him all your best wishes!

Milo

Species: rat
Breed: dumbo rat
Gender: male
Colour: hooded agouti
Age: 6 months
Status: permanent resident

Milo is a big squishy boy who, due to unfortunate circumstances, is almost feral. We are working with him, and he is lovely and cuddly with people once he gets to know them. He is very shy though, especially of other rats. We are especially working on cheering Milo up, because he has been very sad for a while now. He enjoys playing with the other boy rats, and we are slowly working towards introducing him into the group.

Guinea Pigs

Peggy

Species: Guinea Pig
Breed: Rex
Gender: female
Colour: agouti
Age: 1 and a half
Status: permanent resident

Peggy is a disabled guinea pig. Her mother was brought to us pregnant, and gave birth to Peggy and two healthy siblings who have since been rehomed. Peggy's front legs were not formed properly and are curled under. With patience and encouragement she has learned to walk and lives a full and happy life with her good friend and companion Primrose. She is not in any pain, and has a lovely sunny disposition. She especially loves timothy hay and parsley. Luckily for Peggy, she found a very special home with an experienced guinea pig owner and is now living very happily with lots of care and attention.
