Welcome Surrendering Adopting Boarding Animals Fun Volunteer Donate Contact

Please Help

January is always a hard time for animal shelters. Fewer people adopting pets, fewer people buying products, and fewer donations after Christmas, coupled with many more unwanted animals being abandoned than at any other time of year. We've already recieved word from a rabbit shelter in East Lothian that it is having to close due to financial pressure, and some of our volunteers who also volunteer with the SSPCA have told us that it has been months since they have seen anyone come to the SSPCA shelter to adopt a rabbit.

This year, especially, Paws Here is struggling. It may hurt our pride to have to say it, but for the sake of the animals pride is something we can no longer afford.

We need your help.

10 rabbits have been brought to us over the Christmas period, all of whom need to be spayed or neutered before we can hope to find them good homes. These operations alone will cost around £800, assuming there are no complications which could drive that cost higher.

In addition to this, the cost of keeping the rabbits has risen drastically due to the new arrivals. We are now getting through around 20kg of rabbit food a week, as well as two giant bales of hay, two giant bales of wood shavings, and 7 big carrier bags full of vegetables.

Running this shelter costs us over £300 a week, not including ordering products for the shelves and not including vet fees and other costs like licensing. We have no funding except what we make from selling pet products (which, I can assure you, does not come close to covering the amount needed), and from donations.

For each rabbit we rehome we ask for a £20 donation. For each rabbit we rehome, we have usually spent at least £80 in vet fees alone.

We are rapidly reaching the stage where we will no longer be able to continue.

Please, please consider helping us in any way you can - and thank you so much to those of you who already help so much.

Here are some suggestions for ways to help:
